A Birdsnest variant; found this over on Flytyingforum. Woodduck used here, as per the original pattern; feel free to substitute your favorite waterfowl (or whatever).
hook - Dai Riki 280 #14
thread - Danville 6/0 olive
tail - woodduck flank
rib - tinsel gold
abdomen - dubbing olive
legs - woodduck flank
wing - barred woodduck
thorax - dubbing dark olive
bead - 1/8 nickel black
mash barb, slide bead onto hook, jam against eye with some wraps of non-tox; start thread, wrap to bend

measure (gap width past bend) some woodduck fibers; tie in/trim


tie in rib

dub thread/dub abdomen


counterwrap rib; tie off/trim

trim out center of woodduck feather; measure (tips to rear of abdomen), tie in/trim



measure (tips to bend) barred fibers; tie in/trim


dub thorax; half hitch x 2, SHHAN
