Amidst line tangles, bottom snags, and overhanging brush, I managed five rainbows, 2x 16", 17", 19" and 20" on some streamers. The first two came on an olive/brown 2" baitfish pattern and the final three on a 2 1/4" white/olive streamer. The eagle tried to grab one but it decided not to mess with me after about a minute of circling/hovering over me.
I took my streamer off of a bottom snag, tossed it to the side, and a 20"+ brown came and hit it as it sunk, taking me completely by surprise and resulting in a missed hookup.
Used a Type III Rio FS and 2X tippet; my 5wt was perfectly matched to these fish. Strong enough to bring them in quickly, yet still play them out and enjoy a good fight.
Missed three more hits and was ushered off by an encroaching rain shower by 6:30. Wind blew pretty constantly; my float tube fins kept me in control of my positioning in my 9-footer. Probably wouldn't have caught a fish without them.
These are beautiful fish, got pics of a couple. Surface temps at 67ºF. Make sure to properly revive your fish and keep them in the water with the increasing temps.
