I've searched the internets and have not found an answer, so if someone could enlighten me I'd be very grateful.

Can Hardy Marquis Salmon (double pawl) be switched from RH to LH retrieve?
(And not by a machinist, but by the do it yourselfer)

I should add that I'm talking the older made in England model if it makes a difference.

Fly Boy,

Most people engage only one set of pawls, the one on the right for left hand wind, the one on the left for right hand wind (spool removed and looking at the inside of the back plate.). With both sets of pawls engaged, the reel is neither right nor left hand wind; the pressure is the same then in both directions.

Got it. Makes sense now after looking at the inside.

With both pawls engaged you wear out the gear a little quicker. If you are lucky enough to do that much fishing it's a small price to pay.
A = Right hand retrieve, B = Left

Very Cool! Thanks Dan. I've also had the very same question and (used reel) my Hardy's didn't come with the above sketch. Nor, like Fly boy, could I come up with 'something' that showed the 'how to.'

I just purchased my 1st spey reel which happened to be a Hardy Cascapedia MkII Fly Reel, I specified Left hand, but since this is new to me, who know what I will like. I have the Redding RS4 14' 8/8 rod.
