Any of you guys using a hand held pinpoint burning tool for head work, etc?

Looking at various types trying to decide which one....

Mine came from an EMT friend & work just fine when I need one. I use them most of the time to get a nice sealed-end cut on Dacron backing or for creating eye sockets on deer hair heads.

They burn HOT!!
Use one "old" battery down by the tip and a new one in back; as there wear down, keep rotating batteries forward when replacing the back one.

Just don’t use it on the head of the fly if you have recently put on head cement. Poof !

no

never seen the need to use one

deer hair fly tyers use them to make eye sockets but i dont tie that kind of flies
I love mine, got the replaceable tip version as the tips get hammered fast if you abuse them.
FinLuvers mention about decreasing the heat will make life more awesome.
I love mine for removing errant fibers that escape my grasp when finishing a head AND this is a great tool for burning a corner in a Bong or pipe bowl, minimal fire and it burns clean. (Warning, using as a smoking tool will decrease the life of the tip, buy extras.)

Hi Jim.

THAT was exactly what I wanted to use it for.....embedding eyes in heads! I will check with my medical friends...

Thanks for the ideas!

I hear you can use these to field fin clip wild fish to make them look like hatchery fin clipped brats.

we are not to judge:cool:
I used mine on occasion, mostly to just clean up errant fibers. It works great for that purpose. I suggest the replacement tip model as mentioned, I had the non-replacement head model and one day it just died, thus of no further value.
Thanks bud!

Have a SUPER day!
