Just an FYI for those who like Redington products.

Redington, a leader in fly fishing gear, announces new branding for the 2011 season to help develop a stronger Redington brand to be more aligned with it’s current customers and also attract new consumers to the industry.

Redington compiled research and data collected about its brand, consumer base and product offerings to develop a new brand world, identity and overall communications. With this new brand comes a new outlook on how Redington will move forward with messaging to consumers, product range offerings and even a new look for the logo. Redington will continue to speak to core consumers in the fly fishing industry but will also focus its reach beyond the industry to those who aren’t yet a part of the fly fishing world.

“We have spent the past year looking into how Redington could grow outside of the fly fishing industry while still staying true to our core fly fishing market,” says Jennifer Gish, Marketing Manager for Redington. “Through the research we found interesting parallels between anglers and general outdoor enthusiasts in what they desire and need. Our brand has been repositioned in a way to not only reach out to fly anglers but new customers as well. If we can get outdoor enthusiasts excited about fly fishing, we can gain new customers and help grow the entire fly fishing industry.”

All products for the 2011 season reflect this new brand world with new colors, new logo and surprising features that all outdoor enthusiasts can identify with. Redington hopes that both dealers and consumers will be excited about all that is new.

I like the current logo, but I understand the new angle of approach. It is true though, people look for something they can associate with and if your company doesn't fall into the classsic "Legacy" then just the name doesn't cut it. The Redington Hat I have also from a distance has been mistaken for Remington, I guess the red signified blood or something. The hat also looks a little "midwest'ish" in some views [no offense intended].

I wish them the best of success, even though many of us already promote the product hopefully this will help them too.

I don't really think it's any better or worse than their current logo... They both are a little dull in my opinion. I would like to see what it looks like on a rod though.
Good point there Steffan. As most rods are a Brown, olive, black, green, and some blue. I wouldn't imagine them placing the label on anything red. The colors may create a good flowing contrast. I'm sure they tested it our already.

I like it, represents all kinds of of things!
Water, water drop, Mountains, Outdoors and a hook!

Tell me the image doesn't remind you of the pic below. (not sure if they had this in mind but it works for the fishing part of things)

Search google on Hawaiian Bone Hooks and see all the variations. Pretty cool!

Logos, Schmogos, what a bunch of crap!

If it is more important to you to have a LOOK rather than a feel then go for it! I guess it is some sort of ego thing.

I don't care how a rod looks! I want it to have a smooth action and responsive in varied situations. It needs a limberness to allow for sudden eratic runs and a butt to control a decent fish. Now if the LOGO can make that happen I'll eat my hat!!!

But if you think that some marketing guru's logo and catchy color scheme will catch more fish then go for it!

Now if I were dropping a few thousand dollars on a fine custom rod then some consideration would be in the mix. Appearance would become an object.

But then I am not out to impress anyone with a bunch of pseudo fancy gear! I just want to go out and fish and avoid as many people as possible.

Each to your own. If you think big dollar waders and way overpriced rods make you better or more cool then go for it. The fish don't care and most of the few people I fish with don't either. Then when you are admiring the cool logo and all that other high priced stuff and not catching fish you can feel completed!! There is probably some guy not too far away in scruffy waders and a rod with guides taped on that is knocking them dead. He isn't wasting a bunch of energy thinking how cool the LOGO looks and is thinking about fish.

I can't dispute that a logo has no bearing on
who will catch fish but unless you are living
in a world without TV, Radio, Print Media, and that
thing that Al Gore invented... just grab a willow branch
and "go fish" (Trademark of GoFish International LLP).
