A little different shellback, to improve durability; wrapping it with the rib would work, too.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail/shellback - mallard flank dyed woodduck
rib - small wire copper
body - peacock herl
hackle - grizzly dyed hot orange (undersize by 2)

mash barb, start thread; tie in rib, wrap to bend

measure (shank length) some mallard flank; tie in/trim

instead of using the butts from the tail (as on the original), prep the tip of a flank feather; tie in back over the tail

tie in some peacock herl; wrap forward, tie off/trim

tie in hackle; wrap to bend

capture hackle tip with wire; rib body, helicopter end, cover with thread, trim hackle tip

pull mallard forward; tie off

trim, whip finish, SHHAN

Regards,
Scott

Thanks, Scott! This will be well-suited to a fav "back home" place.

Thanks, Scott! Fullbacks were next on my list but I'll now use Mallard instead of pheasant for hopefully more
durability and better movement in the tail.
