A little different shellback, to improve durability; wrapping it with the rib would work, too.
hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - Danville 6/0 black
tail/shellback - mallard flank dyed woodduck
rib - small wire copper
body - peacock herl
hackle - grizzly dyed hot orange (undersize by 2)
mash barb, start thread; tie in rib, wrap to bend

measure (shank length) some mallard flank; tie in/trim


instead of using the butts from the tail (as on the original), prep the tip of a flank feather; tie in back over the tail


tie in some peacock herl; wrap forward, tie off/trim


tie in hackle; wrap to bend


capture hackle tip with wire; rib body, helicopter end, cover with thread, trim hackle tip


pull mallard forward; tie off

trim, whip finish, SHHAN
