Wow. Interesting. Wonder how much business that will cost 'em...
I wonder which big box stores they sell in? The only ones I've ever seen them in are Bass Pro and Cabela's and I rarely buy anything there. Maybe that's all?
While I commend them, I think that ship has sadly sailed long ago.
Do you think they'll rebadge some of their "starter" reels for the Walmarts?
Well that's nice... too bad they don't still sell the original model Gunnison.

The Gunnison is my go to reel.
I have three G3's six extra spools and
one G5. Flawless drags that can handle
anything.

A reissue of the Gunnison would be great. I have two G-2's, two G-5's and a GS-IV.

Not to mention an Evolution and an Animas.

Ross makes some solid reels right here in the USA.

Other than for saltwater species, my stable of original Gunnison G3 reels are all I use. They are scratched, beat up and dinged but they still work perfectly. Fortunately, I have enough frames and spools to last me for quite some time but I wouldn't mind buying a new one of the same model... too bad they don't sell them.

They tried bringing back the Gunnison name a few years ago but it wasn't the same frame as the original so my spools wouldn't fit the new model.

The frame/spool compatibility was always one of their problems. I have some Gunnisons from way back and have picked up spools for them over the years. You better make damn sure the spools are compatible with your frame. "One plunger, two plunger, pre '94, post '98, etc, etc" Great reels though. I really enjoy the G-4 for saltwater - makes a great sound when that bone takes off.
Always loved Ross.
Me too.Have several of the original style Evolutions in various sizes. An excellent dependable and durable reel.Kind of disappointed me when they started making them look like the Galvan's.

Most of my reels are Ross, from the early 90's on.
Great products that last.

Wasn't Ross bought by Orvis a while back?

My wife and I have 3 Ross reels that seem to be of excellent quality.
i had a couple of cla's. and they were both junk. havent touched ross since. my gf has i believe a evolution and it seems like a decent reel.

i do support their decision though, tough road to take i would think. i know thwy were also sold in sportsmans warehouse.

I don't know who bought out Ross but I do know it isn't the original owners. Turns out, it was the original owners that dropped the Gunnison line, not the new folks.
From the Gunnison, their original Saltwater reel, Revolution, Evolution and Big Game....never had a problem with any of them, my oldest SRC reel is about 25 years old, no problems ever....
I have a couple of Evolution 2s I bought a few years ago to use with my Winston rods but never used them, I really like some of the Lamson reels better.

Yes, Ross was bought by Orvis and then sold to Able Reels.
