Other than for saltwater species, my stable of original Gunnison G3 reels are all I use. They are scratched, beat up and dinged but they still work perfectly. Fortunately, I have enough frames and spools to last me for quite some time but I wouldn't mind buying a new one of the same model... too bad they don't sell them.

They tried bringing back the Gunnison name a few years ago but it wasn't the same frame as the original so my spools wouldn't fit the new model.

The frame/spool compatibility was always one of their problems. I have some Gunnisons from way back and have picked up spools for them over the years. You better make damn sure the spools are compatible with your frame. "One plunger, two plunger, pre '94, post '98, etc, etc" Great reels though. I really enjoy the G-4 for saltwater - makes a great sound when that bone takes off.

From the Gunnison, their original Saltwater reel, Revolution, Evolution and Big Game....never had a problem with any of them, my oldest SRC reel is about 25 years old, no problems ever....

Wasn't Ross bought by Orvis a while back?

My wife and I have 3 Ross reels that seem to be of excellent quality."

Yes, Ross was bought by Orvis and then sold to Able Reels.
