So I'm going to be down in Elma this weekend, going to try bank fishing on the Satsop, never even seen this river. Does anyone know anything about this river, any recent reports or advice on places to go that are FFer friendly. I like fishing "new" places but any advice would be greatly appreciated. I printed a map off the internet from the Everett Fishing Club site - shows some bank fishing opportuities. I'll post a report when I get back. Should be fun.

Jb, fished the Satsop for trout quite a bit. If the flow stays low, park at the drift boat take out on the south side of highway 12, next to the bridge, and wade across and down. If we get some rain, you cant wade across there, so go across the highway and fish your way up from the other side of the bridge, or go all the way up to Shafer state park and fish down. You will run in to lots of gear guys throwing spinners and drifting corkies/eggs, so be ready for that. Make sure you lock your rig up and hide anything from visual inspection through the windows. Should be some nice SRC's in there right now as well, so bring some flies for those as well. As for fly selection, pink bunny leaches are good, egg sucking leaches as well. I'm sure there are plenty of ideas on this. Sea Run can give you some advice on SRC flies. Bob.

jb,
Hit the East Fork. A good place to start is the large gravel bar just above Cook Creek. If we get a lot of rain later this week, that would be a good place to start. Even if the water is high and dirty, still fish it. Keep you casts short and close to shore. I've had some great days there in dirty water conditions where you didn't need to cast more the 25 feet.
The farther up river you go, the clearer the water will be. The water at the park stays in pretty good shape if the lower river is dirty. The river above the bridge at the Shafer park is closed to fishing.
Have fun,
Brian
