A favicon or "favorites icon" is the small website logo that shows up in the address bar, favorites menu, browsing tab, etc. The WFF favicon is a white "W" on a green background. REI has an evergreen tree. Sage has a silver "S". For the life of me I cannot figure out the Scott Fly Rod favicon. Anyone know or have an idea?

The problem with favicons is that they're ridiculously small, something like 16 or 18 pixels square. As such they require special design consideration disproportionate to their tiny size.

Sadly though, some designers (or non-designers!) simply start with what they feel is an obvious representation at a 'normal' size and then shrink it down to make the final favicon. Problem is, a lot can get lost in the translation to that vastly smaller footprint. Like details. Or context.

Who knows what the Scott designer had in mind? But it certainly didn't survive the trip from his or her initial concept to the audience.

It was going to keep me from getting any work done today, so I inquired:

Speculate no longer! The icon for our website is from our website designer Kevin Jurgens (www.fisheyesoup.com). He uses this icon on the websites he designs.

Thanks,

Interesting that Jurgens doesn't appear to use the icon on the site they mention in the link above :hmmm:

It's odd that Scott's marketing manager would allow their design firm to hijack a piece of the Scott brand.
Precisely!

Up until 4-5 years ago it was common to seen web sites with a promo line at the bottom of the page saying something like "Site by 50 Fonts and a PC Design Co." Now, that's hardly ever allowed as firms realize how crucial their web site is to their brand identity and communication efforts. Of course, there are also marketing managers out there who are so clueless or tech-averse that even the idea of a favicon is completely foreign.

I found out the EASY way, I called Scott Fly Rods and asked! What you see is actually the avatar from the web designer and NOT Scot Rods. The avatar used is from Fisheyesoup.com
if you look at the Scott Rods avatar and the logo for Fisheyesoup you will see they are the same even though Fisheyesoup doesn't use it for their own avatar.
Question answered!

That's the story of my life!
Took me a while. I read it and got sidetracked, looked it up and bam, too late!
