Talked with a friend tonight about Silvers around the waters close to the Frasier River and vicinity. Apparently a tribal fisherman disclosed that this is the best year they have ever seen, the words swollen nets testing the limits of equipment, etc. Some talk of so many Silvers it looks like miles in circumference, the by catch is 7 to 12 foot sharks full in the belly of Salmon. So the fish are held up in the ocean the fisherman explained tonight and it sounds like he is a happy business man. I feel other than the few scattered early returning fish the majority of them are still in the ocean. I did drive out to Snohomish today with my kids along the lower stretch of the river system, more than a few broke the surface water.

Was up in Canada a couple weeks ago, drove up the Frasier and Thompson on the way to our annual horse ranch vacation. Talking to the locals, indeed, it's the largest sockeye return since they started keeping records. I've never seen soo many people on the rivers, and we drive up there same time every year for the last 15. We camped along the Thompson, up near Spence's bridge, talked with a few people throwing fly's with a cooler loaded with sockeye. Damned I wish I would have brought a rod.

Anybody have any experience obtaining a canadian fishing license? Was it expensive? Next time I hear about returns like this on our way up there, I'm not gonna miss the opportunity, sockeye taste good!

it is pretty easy to get a liscense. If I remember it is about $50 for a couple days and $80 or $90 for the year?? I used to go every year for the sockeye (Harrison Area). It is a blast. 50 fish days easily. even some kings in there. Then it died off until this year, go figure. I used to go to the shop by the bridge over the fraser on your way to Harrison or the one by the vedder to get my liscense. I am sure you get them at any fishing shop.

Always a gong show on fraser when they open it for sockeye...this year was the first I've seen it opened on the T. funny, could eat those fish with a straw..nice soft red meat...yummm....good thing for the river..more food when they die off....

S.D. a certain S river seemed to have a few ho's in this weekend....hooked a couple I assumed were...damn small hooks though didn't hold um...

So let me get this straight...Sea lice from net-pens are responsible for devastating the Sockeye run up there?
