what flies do you use "skating" for steelhead? just getting into speyrodding,have some basic idea,like to get info from speyrodding community,thanks.

Typically 'Bomber' type patterns. I have used tube flies (burn a hole just below the lip and run your leader through that and down the inside of the body) without success. But I can say that with just about any tube fly. Bummer!

Edit: Also consider using a Riffle Hitch to improve the action of the fly.

I fished this summer with a friend and he would use a very small waddington shank and stinger hook setup. The fly was your standard muddler built up with a little more deer-hair and dubbing with some flotation wax, this thing ripped through the water nice and the fish would wake on it, very exciting. This seemed effective since the fly was pulled on a full floater setup and the wax really make a difference.
