Interesting pattern from Bruce Staples' Flies for the Greater Yellowstone Area; tied here with no specific hatch in mind.

hook - Dai Riki 280 #10
thread - Danville 6/0 brown
butt/abdomen - dubbing brown/olive
underwing - Congo Hair brown
wing - mottled turkey quill
hackle - grizzly dyed brown
overwing/head - deer hair dyed dark dun

mash barb/start thread, wrap to bend

dub thread/dub butt

tie biot on either side of the thread ball

dub abdomen

tie in CH; trim

coat turkey quill with vinyl cement; separate segment, trim to shape, tie in/trim

tie in hackle, wrap, tie off/trim; leave some space up front for top wing/head

clean, stack, measure (halfway down abdomen) a clump of deer hair; trim/tie in

whip finish, SHHAN

@ScottP Can you recommend a vinyl cement for coating wings?
Ryan,

I had been buying tubes of the stuff at the box store; tended to dry up (in the tube) rather quickly. Needed some last week and remembered I had a can of this from some plumbing work I did last year:

Worked great - good consistency, seems to have a shelf life a lot longer than the tubes, has it's own applicator; use it in a well ventilated area.

Regards,
Scott
