Sunday afternoon my son and I headed up to the middlefork to scout it out for the first time this year. The road was worse for wear as the washouts and potholes continued up past the Taylor. The lower stretch of river had had color to it and was running high. The further we drove the clarity was excellent but the flows were still high. We found a few places where the cutties were eager to hit a dry fly. After a few fish to hand my son took a break to whittle with his first pocket knife.

The fish are looking up and taking the standard bugs including big ants and some fluttering stone flys.

Good luck!

I was up that way this weekend as well. Didn't bring the rod, just did some hiking around with the pup. Looks like you and the kid had a great time!

I am going to try to get back up later this week. Any recommendations on what flys to be using? (im still relatively noob). Normally I have used Parachute Adams and some ants.

Thanks guys.

Lex,
I'll hit you up. Maybe we can do an after work trip. I fished some beaver ponds last weekend and the found lots of hungry cutties and brookies.

FR500C,
You can't go wrong with smaller stimi's, caddis and royal wulffs " parachutte adams and ants" will work too. At the end of the float make sure to strip the stimi/caddis sub surface. The fish key in on the emerging bugs and you'll get lots of strikes!

Good luck

It's been my experience in the lower stretches (Blue Hole upriver +5 miles) that 900 cfs is about the time you can get in anywhere you want...which also happpens about the first or 2nd week in July
