I'm having a surprisingly difficult time finding 1XL/1X heavy barbless nymph hooks in sizes under 14. Any suggestions on manufacturers or vendors? Not looking for anything unusual, just a standard straight shank down eye hook.

I'm currently using barbed hooks for my size 16 and under nymphs. Although it's not really a big deal to mash barbs, it seems kind of silly to do it over and over and over again. I'd prefer to just stick a hook in the vise and start tying.

Can you point me to a specific model? Last time I was on the Allen site, I couldn't find anything under 14 in a straight-shank nymph hook. They do have some smaller stuff in scud hooks or fine-wire dry fly hooks, but that's not what I need.

Went back and looked. They have the D103BL down to 16. 1XL but not 1x heavy. You are correct in that the other models only go down to 14.

Ah, I hadn't looked at that model. That would work just fine if I can't find a heavier wire hook elsewhere.

1XL, 1XH, Sproat Bend, sizes down to #18.

Going rate seems to be about $6-8 bucks a pack...but that's a 50 pack.
