Caught the 5:20 a.m. ferry to Southworth this morning. Great day to be on the water until I was walking to the Southworth beach. I wonder how many of you are going to ignore this beauty?

I went to my second beach, fished it for the first time. Nice beach, some bait, no hits. Spent some time policing up the area...There are some moments when I just don't like people very much.

Looks like we lost another great beach.

I agree with you Karl.

Checked out an Edmonds beach yesterday during low tide.
Parents out with their kids enjoying what the flats had to offer, and what they left behind were little juice packets strewn about here and there..
Obviously no adult supervision around to tell the little ones that it's not good for the beach.

Karl,
Looks like some of last years Humpy hunters have been hitting the beaches again.
Thanks for your litter pick up efforts. They are much appreciated. Every little bit helps keep things open for us if we all do our part.

That is a bummer about losing that beach. It seems that over time beach access just gets worse, in part from people not caring about their surroundings (and really about themselves). Thank you for picking the crap up off the beach too, every bit helps. Sometimes I feel like it's just a matter of time before we kill ourselves off. I kind of think of global warming like a fever for the earth, just going to burn off all the virus'. I think I need another beer...

Thanks for cleaning up the beach, Karl. Hmmm, seems to me the beer cans I pick up are always Busch Lite, Bud Lite, or Coors Lite. I've noticed the guys who drink that stuff never seem to carry a water jug with 'em...just swill the Lite and leave the cans with their chip bags. Their brain cells are both dehydrated and inebriated to the point that they're all drying up! I'll throw Pabst drinkers in with that sorry lot, too!

Micro-brew drinkers seem to clean up after themselves better!

I have started carrying nitrile gloves and a plastic garbage bag with me, but I think I'll bring an extra bag to double-bag any of those diapers! I see so many of 'em (and my dog got into one once) that I think they ought to be banned altogether!

If you look it up, the RCW cited on that sign appears to apply only to trespass in a building. It makes no mention of tideland trespass, and as you can see on previous threads the issue of public right to traverse across private tidelands has never been completely resolved in WA courts.

Too bad about the garbage though. If the access issue ever gets to court, damages and impacts to private landowners from a decision to uphold a public access right across their land might be a consideration. So how many pictures of garbage, piles of crap, and vandalism like that do you figure the tideland owners would need to demonstrate an adverse impact?

Karl,

I usually ignore the signs. I've found engaging people on the beach so they know who I am seems to help. It cuts into fishing time, but if they allow me to fish as a result, that's cool. I've found that people are more forgiving of flyfisher's too.

Thanks for the clean up!

picture # 2 is the reason we have picture #1. Good for you on helping the cause. Man I hate slobs!

Thanks for your efforts Karl! I rarely fish the beaches, but one that I was hitting quite a bit during the pink run never had another fisherman at it while I was fishing, but more than once a group of local teens would come down, slam a few cases of shitty beer, and leave the entire mess thrown into the bushes behind the log they were sitting on. Terry and I picked up at least a few cases of swill cans there one day on our way out. Pretty sad stuff

Yep. It looks like they cited the wrong section. I'm no lawyer but a beach isn't a premise. Still too bad he felt the need to post his land because of inconsiderate slobs.

RCW 9A.52.080
Criminal trespass in the second degree.

(1) A person is guilty of criminal trespass in the second degree if he knowingly enters or remains unlawfully in or upon premises of another under circumstances not constituting criminal trespass in the first degree.

(2) Criminal trespass in the second degree is a misdemeanor.
