Anyone notice the scratch marks on the gill plates of the larger searuns you catch?
Some fish are really scratched up while others have just a few. I've caught a few that have some very fresh open gashes on their gill plates.
I assume this is from chasing prey amongst the barnacles and oysters. I've also seen this on a lot of larger blackmouth.
I find the battles scars another intriguing feature on these cool fish.

Regarding the scratches on the gill plates, I think they are caused by your leader when fighting the fish. A 'wrapped' coho ends up up with similar discoloration.
Nope, don't think so.
