What's a good book to pick up to learn the basic technique for steel head fishing?

in addition to books... find free seminars at 3 Rivers..Outdoor Emporium and other fly shops and retailers

i realize above is not fly intensive, but you will learn A LOT

Lani Waller's Steelheaders Legacy DVD's are worth twice the money. It really helps when you can see the technique in action.

I bought a Doug Rose book Fly-Fishing Guide to the Olympic Peninsula. I read it cover to cover twice. I just seemed to like the way Doug writes. After that I put Doug Rose's Steelhead Fly Fishing the Olympic Peninsula - The Color of Winter. I don't have any of the other books listed above and I'm sure they are great. As long as Doug Rose keeps writing books I'm going to keep buying them.

Most important part of steelheading is knowing where to fish. Some of the often cited books are surprisingly slim on describing where to fish. Dec Hogan's does the best to date.

Great comprehensive book. You not only get insight to fishing, but the fish , flies, etc. Must read!

Steelhead threads in this forum include more substance on getting it done than I've read in all my steelhead books combined. The only problem is that you have to search them out.

Search your libraries online and see if its available, then you wont have to buy it unless you really like it.
