Most folks agree the for winter steelies a 7 weight is the minimum that one should fish. A 5/6 is perfect for summer runs, however.
Sure, I would go fishing for steelies this weekend if I were you. You are going to have troubles with 1/0-3/0 marabous that are commonly fished now. I would fish the biggest weighted marabous on a sinktip line that you could.
Before I flogged those waters though, I would check if there are fish in the system. No sense wasting time fishing water void of fish.
