Still fishing, Joan Wulff keeps on building her legacy

With the posting of the Lefty Kreh letter topic, a few days ago, I thought I'd look up another legendary flyfisherman and see how she was doing.

The great Joan Wulff, partner of the legendary Lee Wulff.

Great article on her as she approaches 90 years old, and how she has been a huge part of flyfishing for well over 70 years!

Nice to see her doing well!

My daughter started fly fishing last summer. She and I watched a video with JW in it that's half history/half casting instruction ( I think it was on youtube). It was awesome and inspiring. I learned a ton from the lessons portion too. She looks great in this photo, hope she has many more years and many more fish-on.

I think I'm in love.
I have one of Joan's DVD's and I will say her instruction helped me catch more fish.

I got to meet her at a Denver fly fishing show. When I asked if I could get a picture with her she said *yes, but I don't know why you would want to do that*
Beautiful lady.

30 years ago, I had the good fortune to sit next to Joan on a flight from S.F. to Atlanta and then on from Atlanta to Tallahassee. And guess who was there at the airport waiting to pick her up.

The most interesting conversation in my life. She is royalty in my eyes.

By the way, I have it on good authority that Ted Williams was an obnoxious punk . . .

I confess I was tempted to post a smartass response, but the truth is I admire her immensly. She's one Grand Dame.

Lucky Guess!!

Ever notice, or wonder why notables like Joan, Lefty, Geirach, Best, etc. never participate in forums? There are a very few exceptions, like Riveraddict (Ward), but even those who do gradually drift away, usually. I guess they would rather share with paying customers, or find it a waste of time.
Lefty's been posting occasionally on Dan Blanton's website for many years. He's always been very generous with tips, advice, and can damn sure spin a good yarn. He's just a regular guy like anybody here.
Super cool lady.

She was at the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum Hall of Fame induction ceremony that I attended in October to accept the award for my Dad ( Ted Niemeyer). Her second husband, Ted Rogowski, was inducted. I felt honored to meet all of the Hall of Famers.

Brad, This is something that you can be proud of. I have always admired your father's beautiful flies. Congratulations. Joan and Ted are indeed going strong, in their 90's. I saw them last weekend at the "Arts Of The Angler" show in Connecticut. That's a 3 hour drive from their Beaverkill River valley home in the Catskills Mountains. Pictured below, left to right: Ted Rogowski, Paul "Terry" Schultz, Joan Wulff, and James Krul.

Bob:

Yeah, Dad was quite a perfectionist.

I 've gotta book a guided day with you. I'll set a deadline..... before next Halloween. What time of year is the absolute best? Can you take 2 anglers?
