Let me start off by saying I am a complete gear junkie, certainly to a fault, and I have bought and sold more rods and reels in my 26 years than I should have in a lifetime. I over think things and often make quick decisions, only to regret them later. With that being said, I'd like to hear some thoughts on this situation.

Back in July, I bought the 11ft 8wt sage z axis switch rod. I bought this rod to both swing with and fish indicators for winter fish (I live in Michigan). I played around with the rod a few times in the summer and then a couple times in the early fall fishing a skagit with sink tips. I really like the rod for this application, but in my quick decision making, decided that this was too much rod for indy fishing and went out and bought an Echo 10'10ft 7wt switch.....with plans to sell the Z Axis.

Now here we are in February and I still have both rods. I used the Echo all fall for swinging and really enjoyed it, hooking and landing my first few fish on the swing. However, I used the rod to indy fish for the first time a few days ago and it felt really heavy to me and I was not a big fan. The next time out, I broke out the z axis after collecting dust for many months and threw and indy rig and loved it!!! Now this poses a dilemna......i like the echo for swinging but not indy, and i like the z axis for both.

My question is, does it make any sense to keep both rods. To me since they are both switches, one being a 7 the other being an 8, they are so close to each other that having two make no sense. On the other hand, after thinking about selling the Echo I started to question that decision.

What should I do, keep both? Sell the Echo?? Maybe throw a scandi and poly leaders on the Echo and a skagit with T-11 or T-14 on the z axis? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......................

Two switch rods doesn't sound like a problem...not even close. Keep them both, you'll use them.
Amen. Unless you have some limitation factors that say you can only have one...if you do have such limitation factors, do not post them here, anywhere else on line and don't let my wife find out.

and i like the z axis for both.
Baring the need to sell one of the two for financial reason, domestic tranquility, or some such it would seem you 've answered your own question.

Rich ................. Sell the Echo and use the money to buy a Spey rod. Keep the Sage for the PM, Rogue and White. Get a long rod for the MO and Grand. That should solve all your problems untill you realize that you will need (want) more than one spey rod. Dave

im pretty sure thats what ill do, i dont own a spey so i dont own an optimal rod for the Grand (which i live 5 minutes from) or the Mo, which i will fish more next year since I bought a boat. I have been looking at the Echo TR 13'6ft 8wt, seems like that would be a great first spey and a great rod for the bigger waters in the area.

i surely wouldn't sell unless you want to make me a great deal on that Z. I'm a firm believer in having a backup rod or four just in case your favorite gets into some ugly mishap. what if the rivers hot and full of fish and your fovorite rod you just broke is getting fixed, what are you gonna fish?
