I have been looking to build up a switch rod and have found some good pricing on rainshadow RX7 switch blanks but not quite sure on what weight to get for trout as I have never cast these rods before. They have them in 5-8 weight...it will be used for trout mainly with streamers and probably some nymphing during the winter months for rivers here in SW MT. I have a 6/7 forecast spey and it is one stought 6/7 and way overgunned for trout since moving to MT...worked nicely on steelhead in Washington and Oregon though. I am assuming that they are in between a single hand rod and a spey rod so probably a 6 weight would be sufficient to launch big streamers and double nymph rigs. Thoughts?

The Batson rod blanks are rated with the AFTMA standard - so just like single handers. If you prefer a 6wt in singlehanders, then go for that. Unless you're throwing pike streamers, it should be just fine.

You can get yourself a really nice rod for not much more than $100!
