I already asked this in the speyclave, but I really didn't get much of an answer. So I'll try it here in the main forum. Right now I'm fishing a 550 grain SA Skagit multi-tip set up on a 13'3" TFO. I just bought some T-11, and I'm going to cut it into some smaller lengths. I've read that many people cut those pieces of T-11 down as small as 5 feet. Now if I'm cutting my T-11 into tips under 10 feet, do I need to add a cheater to my 27ft head to maintain the proper 3-3.5 ratio? I hope that makes sense.

Also, what is the benefit of a 5-8 foot length of T-11 vs. a 15 ft length?

Thanks in advance.

THe longer the length, the better it will maintain depth under tension. Yes, you will need cheaters to maintain the proper 3-3.5 ratio. I prefer to splice the T-stuff into floating line, making the cheaters permanant. (you will need 10/11 wt line for cheaters for T-11) All tips = 15ft length.
