My first SBS on request for nick. This is a variation of the T-Bone fly.

I use a wide variation on colors and flashes, but it is always hinged, always rattles, always uses bucktail and body tubing, and is always big. ( 8 to 14 inches). Regardless of the size, this fly suspends really well in the water so can be fished in shallow and you can really take you time when stripping. Also the movement.... yikes. I normally tie in rattles but am trying beads in the hinge on this one.
Build the stinger. This wire is rubber coated. Pulling it tight and flashing a lighter at it melts it together and holds rigid.

Tie in the tail. This really determines your overall length. I went pretty long here. Also crimp the hackle feather to flare them a bit. I use 4 feathers for the tail

Tie in the first body tubing. Original pattern uses chockletts Body tubing. This works as good, but is a little trickier to tie in. Be gentle and patient and it comes together

Next tie in bucktail reversed so it points forward, then tie it back with a ramp. Add flash the same color as this layer of bucktail. (I prefer holographic flashabou... doesn't seem to tangle as bad as flashabou)

Add next dam of body tubing, next color of bucktail and appropriate flash. Finish the head

Next add craft wire, I form with shrink tube, then cut the tubing off after adding 1/4 inch beads

I tie this into a cotter pin, although any shank will work. After tying in wire, add first dam and bucktail layer. I do not add flash on this layer. And keep the bucktail a bit thinner on this front half

Add next dam of body tubing and next bucktail. I do a small amount of purple here and then black over it. Tie in hackle feathers per side here and I add angel hair in bait fish color on the back. Add whatever extra flash you like here, just make sure your hackle feathers extend all the way back to the tail to make the stripes continuous.

Add the last dam of body tubing. Color with sharpie. Glue on eyes. I use googly doll eyes from the hobby shop, they rattle. This loc-tite glue works great and seems to be very durable

And your done.

This fly fishes. This is one of my favorite color patterns, but all colors work. Have fun with it. Ask any questions you need. Sorry this was so long winded.

It actually casts like a much smaller fly. With a shooting head my single hand 7 wt held its own throwing this fly, although it was a perfect match for my 8 wt. The materials are easier to cast than say... a 12 inch rabbit strip fly or other common muskie/pike flies.

I'd best not get the Musky fever - I spend too much on tying material & storage containers now (although if I were tying many Musky patterns, the number of storage containers while of larger capacity, may be reduced in number, lol.). I will pick-up some of that adhesive, however - thanks for the insight!

Ya I dont have a lot of experience with glue for eyes, but I fished 4 color variations of this fly hard for a week and never lost an eye. It doesn't set up super fast, but if you hold it in place for 2 minutes or so it sets up real nice. Sometimes I add a little more around the edges of the eye with a toothpick. Put each of those flies into the toothy mouths of pike all week though, that's as much of a test as I could ask for.
