Probably 5-6 years ago, I bought a used Teton Tioga 12 from a guy on WFF. Great reel, performed well for me. So I've kept my eye out for a spare spool.

I found one, but the photos don't look like the spool I've got on there. The one I have has a solid "backside" and the one the guy is selling has holes milled into it's backside like most standard spools these days.

Thoughts on if it will actually fit on my reel? Or it is a crapshoot? Trying to find info, it sounds like teton went through a number of different reel designs over the years.

Josh,
I know your pain. I have 4 reels I regret not buying extra spools for during my 57 years of fly fishing. Hard to find them now.

A good practice is probably to always buy at least one extra spool.

Bump....though I don't expect anyone knows the answer if they haven't answered already. May just have to take the chance.
Josh - have you talked to Teton to get their advice? I had a similar "issue" with my Ross Evolution - I wanted a spare spool. Ross now manufactures the Evolution LT and the good folks at Ross told me they are not interchangeable. They did say I could order a spare spool through my local shop if I felt so inclined. Good luck.

I thought about that. But the people running Teton now aren't connected with the old Teton at all. Their FAQ doesn't make it sound like they have a ton of info. http://tetonusa.myshopify.com/pages/faq

But it may be the best place to start.

Josh, I have several Tiogas and have a mix of old (no hole) and newer (holes). At least on the ones I have, they are interchangeable. 15+ years ago, I worked at a shop that sold them and to the best of my recollection, the Tiogas were interchangeable but the original Teton series reels had many non-interchangeable spools even under the original owners..

However, I don't think that the old new owners (old new, as in ~15 yrs ago) or the current owners ever made the Tioga so it is more likely to fit than if you said you had a Teton series reel/spool.

Can finally buy replacement handles on their website. Been looking for years. Just got two and they fit perfectly on my 12 year old reels. Those Teton tiogas are great reels.

Here's the handle I spent 10 minutes carving streamside when mine fell off. Oh the craftsmanship! Worked reeling in the line, don't know how it would have handled a steelhead.

I have a Tioga Teton 10 and am in the same boat. I did buy a spare spool for it on ebay and it did not fit. The shaft on my reel was bigger than the spare spool . I'd like to find a spare spool for mine. It seems like a crap shoot.

I do have a 12 Tioga Teton I am going to sell if you are interested.
