Here is a almost never seen gem of a reel, a 3 1/8" "The Fraser" fly reel. Fraser was the Canadian distributor for Hardy in the 20's through the 50's. This reel's origin is somewhat unknown, it is an exact copy of the Hardy Perfect or made for Fraser by Hardy. There has been a lot of speculation about the reel over the years, but no one will likely ever know who made it. If it wasn't made by Hardy then whomever did make it had incredible skills for duplicating the work of the Hardy Brothers. For me personally, it would seem unlikely that the importer of Hardy reels into Canada would have looked to another company to produce a clone. In fact, Hardy pursued patent violations (i.e. Thomas Cemm) so it seems unlikely that their own importer would pay someone to violate Hardy patents. In any case, here are the details of the reel.
