Been thinking of picking up a TFO 6 or 7wt rod for river smallmouth, the TiCr model. I prefer a fast action rod and for the price these seem Pretty appealing. We don't have a shop locally so trying one out would be bit time consuming, but for the price they seem very reasonable. I understand that there is better rods on the market but at the 100$ range for a blank it does seems good. So any opinions on TFO's or thoughts especially if you own or have had the chance to cast one?
Thanks in advance
Rick

Love them! Have owned two 5wt Pro's, 8wt Pro and currently have the Deer Creek 13' spey and the 11' 5wt switch. Great warrenty, I have dealt with the local rep for the NW and the corporate people in TX on a warranty issue that wasn't there fault and they took care of me. I would have others, if I wasn't into building rods and didn't already have so many fly rods.

I'm sure you'll be happy with their rods, and am surprised you can't find a dealer in your area.

Good luck!

Spend the extra and get the TiCr or whatever the faster model is. I have the Pro in the 8wt and although it casts nice it's a bit soft for my casting style. All around good rod for the money and has a warranty.

If you need to find a dealer, check out the sites sponsors, I know at least two of them carry TFO. All About The Fly and The Avid Angler

I have three of them, plus a switch kit for the 8 wt. They are worth every penny you pay, the warranty response is superb. I haven't been disappointed, because they meet reasonable expectations for the price. If you want exceptional performance, it costs a lot more. No, they don't perform like my high end Sages, and the cork looks like a corn cob after a year of use, but I do enjoy them, because they're priced exactly for what they're worth. If you do want faster action, spring for the TicrX, I have two of those that I use for distance and heavy flies, and a 6wt Ticr for dry lines. Select according to what you want it to do. For better performance, try the Axiom.

TFO also has donated a squatload of money for Project Healing Waters, as well as the Casting for Recovery series. I own five or six of them, and recommend them to anyone who asks for two reasons: first, they cast really well and are priced decently. Second, the donation thing, and a third, now that I think of it, is that they are actually made here in the USA, but wrapped overseas. We're also picking up a pair of 6-wt switches in a month or so. Great rods!!

TFO are great rods in the price range and their warranty service is top notch. I have a few of their rods and have broken a couple, no issues and fast turn around. They are not the ultralight blanks of the bunch but they are hella strong. I've got a TiCr-X in 8wt that I got just for fighting Chum. Handles the largest of them with ease. I have or have had switch and single handers in a few weights and one spey rod. Every one delivered the line quite nicely.

Re: Thoughts...Opinions on TFO Rods

I have the 4wt Pro..love it for skinnier water (Naches/Tieton), 5wt Pro that I just bought used and sent back to the factory last week to repair a busted snake eye.. we'll see how fast it returns. A 6 wt Axiom that I bought here on this site, love it..just picked up a 6wt Airflow 40+ for the beach and can't wait to give her a try for SRC. And finally a 4wt switch for the Yakima..haven't had her out yet, but will soon. Will couple that 6wt 40+ when I get a chance. Keep looking at this site..these guys upgrade all the time and offer gr8 deals on the TFO's (as well as others).

Great casting rods, I have a signature, couple pros, and a TICR... The TICR is pretty damn fast!!!... My only gripe I have is that you pay what you get foe construction wise, Ive had 2 guide wraps/epox failures and one bad furrels.

Take care,

They are good sticks, I have a couple in Pro, Ticrx and Ticr series. The Ticrx and Ticr have ass ends like a piece of rebar so you have some serious lifting power when you need to break the will of a fish on the run or hoist a behemoth from the depths. I've cast the Axiom and it is a hell of a nice stick, but my new favorite is the Clouser model. Damn thing shoots straight like a laser, even for a ragarm like me.....a fun rod.

Rick, I have owned or own the TFO Signature, Pro, TiCr, and TiCrx. from 4 wt to 10 wt. They are all great values, and great performers. If you like fast action, stout rods, you will like either the TiCr or the TiCrx.

Great advice sounds like a new rod is in the future, I suppose a 7wt will make a great river smallmouth rod the cork shouldn't be a problem as I'm looking to build from a blank especially at the 100$ price range.
