This is a 'repeat' thread from one I just put in the 2-hander section, but thought the general board should be aware. Just looked at the fish run counts over Gold Ray Dam (just north of Medford, Oregon) and the number really jumped the last 2 weeks of 2009. At 661 fish, this is 10% of the total run of 'Summies.'

Here's the link: http://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/fish_counts/gold_ray_dam.asp

I sure miss going to Ashland, and I've never actually gotten to fish down there. My bro lives just up the street from the Elizabethan and I really enjoy visiting town. Can't believe I've never been able to take the rod out though.

You need to fish the Rogue.
I grew up in Medford and I think I still have Rogue river water in my veins.
As a young man I would fish right where Lost Ck dam sets now.
I use to have to watch where I put my foot down when wading because of all the salmon.
Damn big trout feeding on salmon eggs.

JD and I fished 'Denmon bar' late this AM/middle of PM with no luck. (But both of us got to 'play' with my new centerpin rod/reel ... talk about 2 Cub Bears playing with themselves. Some one's got to show me the how with this bit of kt. That said, probably too far down water to find fish that had holding this/that long. For 'fluff-chuckers' the rivers in perfect shape ..

What's to add?

Fred,

Hay thanks for the link. I didn't have that one on my machine.
I have a son in Shady cove area and we drift Lost Creek dam to the Takelma Park Takeout a lot.
Have had good luck there.

Hi Roy. Lost Creek to Takelma would be a very long run for one day, do you usually split that up and run from the Dam to Shady Cove, or SC to Takelma? Both runs are a piece of cake save for 'Rattle Snake' below Shady Cove.

You might also consider the Klamath River, about 30 minutes from Medford. Blackbird's in Medford sells CA licenses. We were traveling to Petaluma for the holidays and Ashland Fly Shop hooked us up.

Bring your rod next time. From 'down town' to Emigrant lake is not much more than 10 minutes. Tons of public access (all free save for the actual park) and gear up for bass fishing. Lakes loaded with small mouth (3-4 wt rod is enough). Longer trip but two or three major lakes farther up in the hills but not much in the way of access unless you have a boat or float tube.

Fred,

That take out is the Tekelma Park boat launch.
Its just 3 or 4 of miles down river from shady Cove.
Its an easy one day float. Leaves time to B-B-Q the catch for dinner...
