Under Armour

Though I'd post this in the salt forum as that is what I generally fish, but this would apply to all types of fishing.
Over the past five years or so, I've worn a hoodie that had a fleece lining but with a cotton outer. Not a great combo, but it worked.
Over the course of a day of fishing, water would start creeping up the sleeves due to the cotton outer.
Not big deal in the summer, not ideal in the winter. I needed a new solution.
I ordered a Under Armour Storm Fleece hoodie and gave it a workout this weekend in a bunch of wind and rain. I was pleasantly surprised to have bone dry arms at the end of both days.
Where I really noticed the water repellent capabilities was when I was washing the salt off my gear. It was raining pretty hard and the rain just beaded up on the surface. One good shake and ready to wear the next day.

I have no affiliation with Under Armour. Just passing on some info on a product that functioned well for me. These are on sale now as well if you are looking to buy your own Christmas gift.

I haven't used many of their products but I do have an Under Armour hooded base layer type top that I've owned for about five years now. I have put that thing through absolute hell. Countless hours of fishing in my free time, commercial tuna fishing last summer, deck handing this summer... it has seen some serious use. It is without a doubt my favorite piece of clothing. It has a few holes and is stretched and worn hard but it's still holding up solid.

Thanks for the recommendation here. Looks like a pretty solid product for that price.

Good products UA makes. I've often found that the extra cost is worth it especially on items you use regularly. They work and they hold up. I like UA!!!
I have a most than exact same thing, different front pocket but functions exactly as you described. Love it.
I do not mean to disrespect Under Armour as I do not own any of their gear and have no opinion good or bad.

But after spending lots of years in the mountains climbing, backcountry skiing, winter camping, hiking, teaching avalanche awareness courses and wilderness survival, I've accrued lots of outdoor oriented clothing.

My favorites have always been Patagonia stuff (especially Capilene under-garments) and Marmot outerwear.

Now that I'm older and don't do the hard-core high elevation climbs and long distance back-country trips, I'm satisfied with clothing that works for fishing, long walks and less-than-epic hikes.

Here's a frugal old-guy tip.

A couple of years ago someone on WFF posted about the merits of WalMart active underwear.

I went to my local WallyWorld and bought a long-sleeved undergarment which I believe is labeled "DriStar".

To my eye the fabric and construction is no different from the expensive Nike stuff called "DriFit" which I also own. The contrast is that the Nike shirts cost nearly three times as much as the WalMart clothing.

The Nike stuff is made in Thailand. The WalMart stuff in El Salvador. I see no difference in the insulating and sweat-wicking perfomance of the garments.

Just my 2¢ and of course "caveat emptor"!

For my winter fishing I use the UA Cold Gear hoodie, fantastic warmth to weight ratio. I'd comfirm as Stoner mentioned even if you get a sleeve wet it wicks out fast and won't feel damp. Works perfect for me under a Simms Gore tex shell.

Soaking wet cotton is no fun, a subsurface event I'd not soon wish to revisit on a past February float down the Hoh taught me that.

The water repellency won't last, however, NikWax is an excellent product to reestablish water protection.
