Wa Bill To Eliminate Fishing Guide Licenses: Hb 1361 - 2017-18

Just a heads up to those who rely on fishing guide services in WA state. District 13, Manweller introduced
HB 1361 - 2017-18
Creating the Washington effective licensing port and eliminating various occupational licensure and certification requirements.
Sponsors: Manweller

If approved, the bill would eliminate guide licensure-certification and set up an Angies List-type of website for public potshots at your favored guide. I don't know what Manweller has against guides--maybe, didn't catch a fish or had to release a native steelie--but it should impact some on WFF.

So no more guiding? Or no more requirement to get a license to guide? There's several states where you can guide with no license.
I read it as nore more requirements to be a guide. Creates a buyer beware kind of atmosphere. Which is fine some people will have good experiences others won't. Much like it is now.

Where does it say guiding is being eliminated? I just see remarks to redefine old RCWs to align with the new Washington State Yelp for Random Occupations which allow for encorcement or the legislation. Ie fines

Seriously though, auctioneers, guides, landscape architects, cosmotologists, fur traders need a 5 star review government website?

Really?

Edit: Ahh Manweller is minority rank member n labor and workplace standards. I don't know how voting history but looks like this is trying to pull oddball occupations under formal wage, L&I etc laws and maybe prevent fraud or frivolous lawsuits. RANDOM GUESS

A Representative from Ellensburg. A quick look at the bills he's primary or secondary sponsor on suggests he is one busy beaver. This is simply another example that we have WAY TOO MANY FUCKING ELECTED OFFICIALS running around dreaming up regulation and laws.

I don't know about this one, seems easy to pull the wool over someone's eyes when they are just looking to get a trip down the river or out on the lake. Also seems like it could present some safety hazards for some clients using greenhorn guides... A lot of friends rely on good guides to bring in some cash flow to our area in NCWA and hate to see them suffer because of ol Jim Bob pushing in, license free, and hurt the veteran guides. Just 2 cents....

At last, an issue that everyone here can support.

Unlimited guides on the river because there are already too many guides on the river! Public pot shots at bobber lobbers! Apprentice-style "You're Fired" reviews because the guide made fun of my shitty rod & reel!

You bet Manweller is getting a phone call. Here's his number (360) 786-7808

How would this affect insurance for guiding? I was looking at getting into it but took a different avenue but would you still need to be insured? Also is this for motorized craft too? Haven't looked into it much yet...

Wow, now everybody's a guide, what a state of confusion we live in !
After working in a fly shop, everyone already thought they were guides that came in. Now they can just charge for it! Lol no good.

Absurd. But that doesn't mean it won't be approved. What is laughable about this is how much more government control and bureaucracy this ultimately introduces for all of the occupations listed.

Please blow up his Twitter. He's advocating to deregulate the management of our natural resources. How did he get elected?

If perhaps Representative Manweller would also include members of the House and Senate on their website
"review" list, much like YELP BS, then at least it would level the sarcasm, lies and innuendo that seem so flagrant and unchallenged. Thanks for sharing and good luck dealing with our elected officials.

I see from your later post that he's, uh, listening.
