WDFW information says there are brookies in this lake. I hear rumors that the access is "challenging". Can anyone share a first hand account of this lake?

I have been to Wallace Lake in May of 2000, I think. We rode our mountain bikes about 6 miles up to the lake. The ride was not too bad, if I remember correctly. The lake is really beautiful, and it does contain brookies. I caught a couple on a small mayfly pattern O was casting amongst rising trout. The fish was small, like most of the risers. I was fishing on the log jam at the inlet side of the lake. This lake would be a great place to troll from a float tube.

I would also like to try to find Jay and Shaw (I think...) lakes upstream from Wallace. I have heard that these lakes have some nice fish in them if you can find them...

I was up there in October of 2000 and just fished for around 20 minutes then I let the pooch in the lake. I caught a couple cutts of the logs on the far end of the lake. Good fun. If you're looking for brookies the trail to lake Dorothy up by Money Creek is a bit easier to follow. Wallace is sort of a maze of logging roads but not too bad if you've got a map.

I've never caught a fish there, but it is a great family hike. I built two of the bridges and a turnpike with my Boy Scout Troop. I would venture a guess that your fishing time is better spent elsewhere. Try the hike in Autunm when the leaves are turning though. It's absolutely gorgeous.
