Tied here as a hydropsyche; change color/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 320 #16
thread - MFC 8/0 sand
body - Zelon dubbing hydropsyche
wing - mallard flank
hackle - brown cast grizzly

mash barb, start thread at 2/3 mark, wrap to point above barb

dub thread/dub body to 2/3 mark

prep mallard flank (strip fluff off the base, hold feather by tip; stroke rest of fibers to the rear)

measure (wing tip gap width past the butt); tie in/trim stem

tie in hackle; wrap, tie off/trim, half hitch x 2, SHHAN

separate each side of feather from center stem by (carefully) pulling the lowest free fiber from the tip

trim center stem (if you want a more tent-like wing, separate the feather sides before tying on the hackle and take a few wraps of thread to move them closer to the body)

Scott

I do love the look of a 'Wally Wing' !!!
Now I have to sit down and practice pulling the barbules with a tiny strip of the rachus free from the stem. I'm sure when I have some in my box I'll want it on the end of my leader.
