As you may of heard, WDFW is developing a phone app. The app contains the sport fishing regs and has a mapping feature. When you turn the phone on, it will show you where you are and if you are at a body of water, it will show the regs for that body. You can also move the map around and tap on a body of water to get its regs. At this point in time, it is not ready for commercial release, but I was asked if I knew of any individuals who are actively fishing to see if they would be interested in testing it out and providing us with feedback.

I thought this would be a great place to ask.

If any of you are actively fishing and would like to participate, contact me at 360.902.2764 or [email protected].

Thanks,

Bruce

Don't think it will work on my rotary phone, but it would be a nice app for the subaru
You made me think back to when I first moved into the Lynnwood/Alderwood area. Back then you had to talk to an operator and tell her the number you wished to call. Them were the good old days. At least it wasn't a phone hanging on the wall.

I don't think any app would work on them phones.

I'm in (I sent an email).

Kudos on this one, WDFW. Lots of potential for collecting data to support management decisions. As you can see from early replies, adoption is likely to occur along generational lines, at least at first, but you probably anticipated as much.

I just added this via the Play Store. I assume we are taking about the Fish Washington (Unreleased) app? Mine shows v0.3.0 Pretty cool. Long overdue, but I know the state is probably behind for this type of thing.
Bruce,
The main thing I notice right now is all the lakes that have the traditional opener (not the year-round lakes) show the season as 6/30/2016 to 06/29/2017. Obviously not correct so wondering if that could be one of the first things fixed as it could land someone in some hot water.

The other thing that was weird the first time I fired it up is the map was so zoomed I thought it was blank. I was literally zoomed so close on my location it didn't even show my street so I had to zoom out. Some users might not try that and just think it was a failed map load attempt.

Anyway, great that the state is trying this. The smart phone saturation is higher than those that carry the regs so this app will be huge.

Thanks,
Stacy

A lot of the rivers don't have any data either. I think that they are probably working out other kinks. They will probably do an update and have data for all body's of water or at least a majority. They don't release until July so we have some time. At least we have something.

Do not worry about the rules. Right now they are wanting to know how user friendly it is and if you are on a lake and open the app, is it showing the lake you are on? Do you like the fifferent msp options? Did you try turning off some of the filters? Is the search function working? Etc.

They know about the map issue with the android version.
