Kind of depends on what I'm tying. For spiders I prefer Daiichi 1640s or Drennon Specimen hooks, standard wets Daiichi 1550s. Dries get a number of hooks, usually whatever box happens to be open at the time, usually Daiichi or TMC, Steelhead and Salmon usually get Daichi. Klinks and other emergers get Partridge.

I just started tying on Partridge because I found a shop over here that sells them for just over 1 GBP per 25! Even with the exchange rate that's a savings! My old standby was Mustad and I have never had a problem with them, I just like the Partridge better I guess.

The favorite is always the one I'm tying on now. I try to buy ahead and search out the best one for what I need without paying too much. many of the best buys arer from Cabelas but not the store only the catalog, the store doesn't carry the large packages. Bob

Daiichi is my all around favorite hook brand, if only they were a bit less pricey.

I like the gamakatsu c14s glow bug/egg hooks with a straight shank/eye. They hook fish just fine when used in tube patterns or as stinger hooks on articulated flies tied on waddingtons, shanks or cotter pins. I tie steelhead flies on size 2 gami steelhead hoods, upturned eye because I like them, not because I know if upturned, straight or downturned are better than any other. Best hook is the one that is between me and the fish and is sharp and true.

Right now I'm really big on some UK brand "Carp" hooks that I have been using for tubes and stingers. WICKED WICKED sharp, short shank w/ a wide gap. Slight downturn eye and WICKED sharp. Want to say the are the Nash Fang Gapper hooks. You can go down to size 8 or 10 and still have the strength to handle monster fish. Gape on the smaller sizes is still wide enough for Steel. Great hook.

I tie with Tiemco because that's what "my" local shop has. My favorite hook is the 200R. From salmonflies to hoppers to nymphs; sizes 4 to 16.
