I am about to be the proud owner of a Spring Creek Pram, model 8ft Hopper II. The last thing I want to do is to spend time caulking this fiberglass pram because I have to drag it across rocks to get it in the water. That said, what are the preferences for wheels/caddies that make good, reliable options. I have dealt with the pump-up wheel type caddy that straps to the bottom of the boat which I found a pain in the neck. I am leaning toward retractable wheels but have heard the stories about wheels that are worthless. Tell me your thoughts.

The caddy shown here costs about $500. I built something similar out of 2x4s and a couple of 8" wheels, cost was about $25. The larger the tires the better it will roll over rough ground. If you look up Et Toro sailboat caddies you will see other ideas. I plan to build a new caddy out of plastic pipe or aluminum extruding's.

That looks like Bosch aluminum extrusion, if so, small wonder it cost so much.

Out of my price range. That's why I built my own. I have been pushing 8' prams on these home made caddies for many years. I have seen them made from 2" PVC pipe and they work well.
