I've been fishing the cedar and have been catching a lot of 6-8 inchers... any advice on where (no secret spots just general areas) to find something bigger and/or which flies might be more effective would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Not so much a "where" issue as larger fish are scattered throughout the system (the ones that are left :hmmm:). Your best tactic is "when," as in, stay late. The closer to dark the better your odds since they tend to get active in lower (safer) visibility. Also, watch for any sockeye as it gets toward late August...if they hit the river early fish it hard for those big rainbows. They won't be far away.

Bugwise, PMX in #8 or #10. Your favorite color works.

Good luck!

As mentioned stay late on the river, take a hikers light with you and stay on the river until you need it to find your way off - truly. Often the largest fish of the day for me has been during the onset of heavy dusk, although this year I have found this not to be the case - my largest fish this year have all been well before dusk/dark.

In the past I've had best success with PMD's or BWO's (< size 14). This year it does not seem to matter what type of dry I use (EHC, BWO, Royal Wulff), all have been catching fish - size does matter so keep the flies in the size 16 range.

As for where ... for me at least .. upstream of the golf course.
