Hi I have never gone flyfishing for stealhead before and am wanting to give it a shot. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Wenatchee river. So if you guys could help me out with maybe some mile markers or landmarks on where I should give it a shot it would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Bryan

Fishing the Wenatchee is tricky. The rattlesnakes and bears get you from the shore and the vampire leaches eat through your waders in the water.

If you are willing to put up with that, I would try somewhere between Leavenworth and the mouth, lots of good places to fish that you can see from the road.

The Wenatchee River is only open for Whitefish at this time. And you have to go by Whitefish rules. A size 14 hook is the biggest you can use. Please read the regs for more info.

There is an emergency opening on the Wenatchee but it is not showing on the emergency regs page. Here is a link to it: http://wdfw.wa.gov/do/newreal/release.php?id=sep2809a (I am on the phone with a local WDFW guy who confirmed it's still open. I just sent an email to WDFW about the error.)

The Wenatchee is very wadeable this time of year and there is a lot of access. Driving up Hwy 2, you will see lots of places to pull over and fish but make sure your tires are off the pavement to avoid a ticket. There are a bunch of WDFW access points (http://wdfw.wa.gov/lands/water_access/index.html) on the river so finding access isn't hard; finding fish is the real trick. Good luck!
