Thought this might be of interest. Found this article by complete accident -- evidently there is a meeting on Aug 31st -- I live within walking distance of the river and the community center and I hadn't heard anything about it!

Were there any wild runs before the dam went in?

Yeah, they even provided a ladder originally, but it was abandonded shortly thereafter. That's my understanding anyway. The dam has been in place for almost 100 years now -- they've been discussing removal for a decade or so.

I did not know they stocked that river and thought the fish caught there were sticking it out for the colder water temps. Thanks for posting.

im living very close to the white salmon atm. the damn is coming out and that is great news. i will try to attend the meeting if possible.

The problem is that the native run was killed off years ago and there plan of letting the run rebuild its selt with natural stays really isn't a realistic option. If they want to rebuild a run then plant with some brood stock and leave a portion unclipped for escapment and you still have a catch and keep fishery to keep the locals happy. Just my two cents. I will try to attend the meeting.
