So, I knew they were building up a bunch of hype for this rod, but then the "unveiling" came and went and not even a word was uttered about it. Has anybody put hands on, cast, or fished this rod? Just curious to hear about it.

My understanding is that they've not yet shipped to stores as they're working in fixing an issue with the reel seats. They fit most, but not all, reels. I know of only one local shop that has one demo to cast. They should be in all shops in about two weeks.

I have prototypes of the 9' 5 weight, 9' 7 weight, 10' 8 weight and 10' 9 weight in the shop right now. I think the 5 is the best distance (5 weight) rod I've ever cast, the 9' 7 weight would be a fantastic Bonefish rod. If you don't want to take my word for it (why would you) come cast them yourself. I'll have the prototypes here at the shop through Thursday the 2nd.

Is it true that you got it for free? I thought I read after the reel seat fiasco they told fly shops that had the "defective" rods that they could have them for free as demo rods.

What is the deal with the warranty on the NRX? The loomis web site says the lifetime warranty on the NRX is MUTUALLY EXCLUSIve of the one time wild card over the counter warranty. I am too dumb to figure out all this legalese, but it sounds like if you use the wild card, your warranty is no longer valid.

Because the other brother is better, hahahaha. I've been an echo guy for a long time now, and always thought the loomis rods were sort of meh (admittedly I have only owned one gl3). The whole hype about these new rods made me never want to sling another loomis stick again.

Yeah, I have interacted with the Steve part of the Rajeef brothers, and I would comment but my mom always told me if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. So here is what I have to say about Steve Rajeef:
He is a awesome caster, and as a human being

I cast the 5 weight and the 7 weight today. I have to agree the rods are awesome.

I don't intend to be close minded, but every Loomis rod I've tried (Spey rods excluded) is stiff as a fireplace poker, and way over-priced for that purpose. Consequently I never look to see what their latest rods are like, since I assume they are just stiffer, if that were possible.

I suspect most of us already have a lifetime supply of super fast wonder rods, so even if these are incrementally better, it's not enough to make most of us part with $700. A few will, most won't.

You hit the nail on the head. These rods are behind the technology (OOPS, I mean marketing) curve.

Most people that bit the fast rod hook are now selling them - or at least looking for suitable soft rods. I'm speaking from the first person here.

Jesse, I'm with you. Over the past few years I've sold all of my super fast XP. TCR and similar super fast rods and replaced them with glass and medium action graphite rods. I think I am down to two super fast rods out of a dozen.

I was down at one of the shops here in Calgary and was able to cast the 9' 8wt. It is an outstanding rod in my opinion. I have a Cross Current GLX, which is very stiff and fast, and has handled all my saltwater and pike fishing for the last two years. The Nrx blew it away. I have never cast an entire flyline in my life (which isn't that surprising the way I cast), but on my very first NRX cast the backing was up in the guides. The rod is nowhere near as stiff as the Cross Current, but has power out the ying yang and seems very forgiving of minor timing errors. I will say that unless you do fishing where long casts are frequently necessary (ie. the salt), I doubt that you need to consider one. Long and the short is that I am buying one. And I don't have gobs of discretionary income.

I have only used Echo fly rods and Lamiglas gear rods my entire life. I used to be able to stop in at the Woodland plant and they would fix or replace anything I needed on they're rods. Unless Tim Rajeff is out of town you can stop by Rejeff Sports and shoot the sh-- with him and am sure if anything needs repaired on his rods it would be done as well. As most of you forum dwellers know I run a fishing group at Juvy in Vancouver Wa. and both Lamiglas and Rajeff have donated several things for the kids but Loomis also did, but it was before the take over by Shimano. If I had to choose my rod of choice it would be hands down Echo. They are well built, tough, nice looking and feel right and if you have any questions on any of the Echo products, Tim is always on the other end of the line with plenty of answers, the same goes with Lamiglas, Ryan Taylor is they're go to guy. Plus you can buy 2 or 3 rods to one Loomis rod and to me that adds up to many gallons of gas for those trips to the Big D or any where for that matter. That's my take on it.

As a few other posters (who have cast the rods) have pointed out, the NRX rods are not stiff. They are very powerful, but the really interesting thing about them is that they cast great in close and do not feel stiff at all.
In regards to the warranty: My understanding is that you get one free expedited service no questions asked (“wild card”). After that, you pay the standard fee or you can send them back for the no fee warranty (which takes about 2-3 weeks).

At the risk of sounding like a giant smart-ass (a risk I take daily):
As cool as Tim Rajeff is as a person and rod designer, I don’t get to take him fishing with me (even though we are an Echo dealer). What I do take fishing on a regular basis is my fly rod. Therefore I try to pick a really cool fly rod.

By the way, the rep forgot to pick them up, so we still have the demos here for anyone to cast.
