Starting a fresh box for winter in the sound. Going to try and keep it limited to the "must haves", curious what others have if they have a specific winter specific box for the sound? Next up to tie I have some green and silvers, crazy plankton, squimp, fj pink, bristle worms Justin waters style, micro flatwings, sea run buggers in orange/pink/tan, chart clousers, pink streak, couple small deceivers, grey ghost, a few surf candys in various colors, the don simonson euphasid, Johnson's beach fly and Knudsen in various colors.

You got my #1 covered in the photo. Add some searun buggers and Knudsen spiders and that would cover 95% of my sub-surface fishing. I'm not familiar with all the patterns you listed, but do you have any topwater stuff in there? If not, a few gurglers are a must.

That fly you have in your box in olive is my comfort SRC fly. There are a few folks on this forum with a lot more experience than I that will likely chime in but for me, nothing has caught more SRC I'm the salt over the last few years then a cone or bead head olive wooly bugger. All seasons. To a point that I am not even fishing them much anymore. I have tied up all kinds of other odd sh*t trying to expand my horizons because I have become too dependent on that fly...

I have some miyawaki poppers and I'm going to add some gurglers! I got the flymen fish tank in the mail today so my tying time has shifted to watching flies swim! I wish we could do a post with videos easily that was "what's in your tank", this thing is so cool

I have had great success in the sound using a composite loop bait fish. I tie it on a size 4 hook down eye, with dumb bell eyes tied on the underside of the fly. Its just one big dubbing loop I usually use ice dub in pearl UV. It looks just like some chum fry and is a very good bait fish pattern. Its the only fly ive used this winter and its produced every time out.

I'll have to give that a try. It's a good example of the concept we fly tiers most often ignore: KISS (keep it simple, stupid!).
Yeah there is a good video on you tube posted by OPST, thats where I first saw it and the version they tie is a bit more dubbing colors. I just chose one and its exactly that its simple but very effective.

What are some good colors? If youbdont mind
Olive and black work for me, plus orange of all things. I typically use searun buggers to mimic sculpin by fishing them deep with a slow retrieve. I let the fly sink for a count of ten (or longer if the water is deep or moving quickly), then I use a slow, twitchy retrieve. Good way to catch real sculpin, too!

I was gonna that's a good way to tell if your waiting to long on the drop and the retrieve, is if we're catching sculpin. Hahahah

Pics...tailed or netted...or it didn't happen.:D
Damn. I kept it wet and released it unharmed, so perhaps I can land it again and get a photo. I refuse to hotspot, but I will say that particular log took a #6 Delia Squid stripped slow. Just make sure you load up your tippet. Those monsters will break you off in a second.
