Howdy Folks,
Can anyone recommend the best way to access the stretch of the Yakima above Ringer where the river splits into multiple channels and braids? I imagine that would be one of the more wading-friendly sections of the Yak, true?

Without a boat that section of the river is difficult to get to. Most of the land surrounding the river there is privately owned. Luckily this time of year wading is easy throughout the entire river.

I haven't been over there for a few years,but above the Ringer access there is/was a place there where you paid to access the river. Back when I went it was 10.00 a day and the pass was good for all day. Even if you left and came back.

You will want to stop by Victor's Ranch if he is still taking $$ to acces his property. I honestly don't know if they still own the ranch. They are really nice folks and their property will be all to yourself. Just take Ringer and look for the signs. I think this is what you are talking about. His watefront has tons of little islands, channels, braids and currents to fish from. Very easy wading.

What about parking at Ringer and hoofing upstream? Too far, an impossible bushwack?

This time of year, with the low flows, a guy could walk all the way up the Yak if he wanted to.

Just pay or at least ask if it is okay to walk the property to access the river.

Also, it doesn't seem feesible. Check it out though.

I've fished the Yakima 2-3 days per week since spring and now that the flows are back down to a better wading level, why pay to get access when you can park at any pull out off the road & along the river and get to the river for no charge! Find an empty spot and have at it!

Let me ask a different question now. Does anyone know of a section of the Yak that has a lot of braids and channels and is easy to access?

I like the idea of breaking the Yakima up into smaller pieces. As much as I like to fish out there, the Yak is a bit bigger than the rivers I'm used to fishing.

If your looking for quiter waters on the Yakima then this might help. Take the Cabin creek exit,I think that is what it is called. After you take that exit and drive down the road a little piece you will see some roads leading off of this road to the right. They don't look like much,but they take you down to the river I think. I just found this place by just being out there looking around and trying to find new access to the river. Lots of little side channels but being as you are closer to the dam it isn't very big/wide.

Hi Jim,

I know the spot you are talking about. The cross country ski trail goes pass it in the winter. The question is have you fish it? I keep thinking about trying it, but have not made it yet.
