The clean up was very well attended and was a great success! I chose not to work out of a boat so therefor I don't have a fishing report but I'm sure others (trouthole I believe was there?) will pitch in. Instead I worked the put in / take outs (the Slab), some of the banks and along the road. At the Slab, in less then a full hour, three of us picked up 6 bags of trash (and one car battery) and hardly made a dent. Some thing got to be done about the cmapers there! Without toilet facilities, the TP and crap (and I mean CRAP literally) was out of control!!!

On a better note, at the meeting following the clean up there's an effort to form a Federation of Fly Fishermens club. The main idea that came out of the meeting is to have a club that is more active with conservation/preservation projects on the Yakima (not so much in the way of improving fly casting skills). If you fish the Yak, have an interest in helping preserve and improve this fishery, there will be a meeting on Tuesday, November 12th at 6:00 p.m. at the Ellensburg Inn. Angie and I got to drift this time 'round with Mr. Joe Taller. That guy is cool. We drifted from Ringer to Bighorn. There wasn't a lot of trash to be found along the banks in this section, as it's very limited for access by foot. Last time we did the clean up we went straight to Umptanum, crossed the foot bridge and headed back north, filling two garbage bags.

It was a splendid day, and once the sun was up long enough, like a giant weathered space-heater in an all too large room, it warmed just a wee bit.

As soon as we put in, we wondered aloud if Joe wouldn't mind rowing a bit backwards and just up from where we put in. There was a pod of fish there and as soon as we approached, I saw a very very large one skidaddle. We anchored, I peed. I peed again. We fished.

Ang had one of those days where something happened often enough to never let it get stagnant. She was immediately into fish and hooked three I think. I hooked one 'bow and actually pulled in a stupendously beautiful and glistening Whitefish. My only fish of the day.

A bit down the river, Angie hooked into and landed what appeared to be a 17-18" 'bow that fought her well. Joe bounced out of the boat and brought the wonderful creature to net. Cool rubber net, too.

We had a great time and will be back in Spring to fish... er, pick up crap again.

I attended both events yesterday. I came out this last spring with members of my fly fishing club (OFFC) and had a blast. You always get a good feeling when your at the Worley-Bugger, but the clean-up is a situation where Steve Worley and his crew are just pleased as hell that everyone shows up and they then go WAY OUT OF THEIR WAY to show everybody a good time, with a cornucopia of prizes, and all and all, a great time.

The attitude of everyone and fellowship on these clean-up events is so that the flyfishing is a secondary thought. By the way, speaking of flyfishing..

I was adoped by Kent and I think the other guys name was Bill (?). These guys were couple of characters from Gig Harbor and Browns Point. These guys funny as hell and had me rollin'! Rollin' over fish that is.. We rolled over fish from Bighorn to Red's. I think that everybody caught a couple three fish a piece and of fairly decent size.

I ate at the same table with Bill and Kent and they are great guys. A lot of the westside guys had to leave because of the long drive back but the idea behind the FFF club is to have projects that conserve/preserve the Yakima (not quite so much emphasis on improving our casting skills, though we all could use that). Hope the westsiders that fish the Yakima regularly will join the new club, even if they can't make it over for the monthly meetings.

I also worked from the shore on Saturday. Extremely dismayed by the amount of trash on the river. Worked at bighorn, picking up after the rafters, then some pullouts picking up highway trash. There are some digustingly trashy people around :MAD .

Had a chance to fish for almost 2 hours in the afternoon. Started nymphing, with no success then found some risers. Fooled 3 trouties, one 10 inches, one 14, and lost the biggest of the day. Had to hit the road around 2, so maybe missed out on more dry fly action. Beautiful day to be on the river, I've already put some trash sacks in my truck for my next trip to the river.
