Yakima River Fly Fishers is having their quarterly membership meeting Saturday, March 1st at the Ellensburg Inn. There will be an auction following the dinner and a guest speaker. You do not have to belong to YRFF to attend. Below is an approximate timetable for the meeting:

6:00 - 7:00 p.m. - No-host Social Hour

7:00 - 7:45 p.m. - Buffet Dinner
Dinner cost - $12.95 per person + tax & tip ($15.40)
Menu - Sliced Baron of beef, Salmon filet, assorted salads & vegetables, rice & potatoes, rolls, coffee & tea. Please RSVP to Greg Moore at [email protected], if you will be attending.

7:45 - 8:15 p.m. - Guest Speaker
The guest speaker for the March 1st meeting will be Jay Robeson, who will speak about the leopard rainbows, the kings, the cohos and the chums of Alaska. Jay has worked in the fly fishing industry for 13 years. Most of his work experience in the field has been with Fishing Pursuits in either sales or guiding. Jay has put together packages for anglers to fish from the Kanetok River for rainbows and salmon, to Ascension Bay for bonefish and tarpon, to Patagonia in search of trout. His fishing trails have lead him over that trail as well, as he has spent a considerable amount of time on the Kanetok as the head guide for Alaska West. YRFF members are encouraged to bring their significant others and to invite friends to attend.

8:15 - 8:30 p.m. - Questions / YRFF Project update
Plans are underway for the club's "sign project" along the Yakima River from the headwaters to Roza Dam. Forty sites have been identified and now the exact wording and costs are being worked out. We will have a sample of the sign at the March 1st meeting.

YRFF will be holding a Yakima River Spring Clean from 9:00 until 12:00 noon on March 1st. Everyone and anyone interested in helping out with this event should contact Greg Moore at [email protected]. The plan is to clean up the six boat launch sites from Ringer to Mayers and a 5-mile stretch along the road from Bighorn to Umptaneum. We will meet at Red's at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and donuts, pick up trash bags and get assigned areas for clean up. If we can get 30-40 people, it shouldn't take the full three hours. Fishing after the clean up is the plan.

There will be a raffle to go along with the auction. Everyone that works the clean up will receive one "free" raffle ticket. You must be at the YRFF dinner to receive the ticket and be eligible for a prize. All YRFF members in attendance at the dinner will also receive one "free" raffle ticket for a chance to win the big prize - a Ross Gunnison G3 reel. Extra raffle tickets will be sold at the Social Hour.

Yakima River Fly Fishers Meeting & River Clean up

I'm planning on camping with the dogs at umptanum friday and saturday night, helping with the clean-up and attending the meeting. guess i gotta get my membership app in. If anyone wants to stop in and say hi, i'll either be in a wintergreen subaru outback, drinking mirror pond and snacking on brie and crackers; or i'll be in a beater red '87 toyota 4x4 with a ghetto camper shell drinking mbi (milwaukees best ice for the ignant) and surving on doritos. depends on my mood, and which car the wife leaves me.
see ya on the water
