I'm taking a first time fly fisherman to Cle Elum to try for the first time its Blue Ribbon trout waters. We will be wading. Where would you suggest we try and what sort of nymph would you use.

Thanks for your help!

The Yakima's been steadily rising all week and it's gaining on 4000 cfs right now, which is borderline unfishable, ABSOLUTELY unwadable. Unfortunatley the USGS guages don't tell you where the water's coming from. Go to the Bureau of Reclamation's site to check the discharges from the individual dams, Kecheelus, Kaches, and Cle Elum (I have know idea the address, check Google). If all the water is coming out of Cle Elum, there may be fishable water in the Easton area. Access is pretty limited up there, but it's better than nothing. If water's coming out of the two Ks, or all three dams, and you've got your heart set, keep going to the lower canyon (about another 45 min) and fish from shore. Princes, zug bugs, soft hackles, and caddis pupae. Also big attractor dries, caddis, and maybe some PMDs.
