"It was not immediately clear what led to the men's deaths."

Come on! They went out in a FLAT BOTTOM BOAT, into a OPEN BAY, in a SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY. And there is a question as to why they are dead?

Darwin!

I'm guilty. While not an entirely flat bottom 18' the boat we use when loaded down isn't the safest to be crossing the Columbia with when the weathers kick'n. I'll get some less than bullshit (current) PFD's that can be worn over all the gear instead of just being stowed next to the others in a less than accessible compartment.

One of the many reasons my last two duck seasons have sucked. Small craft and solo are a pretty big no go for me. My buddies and I have has unmatched schedules, so I stay on ground or don't go.

Man those guys looked like babies - we have crossed the Potholes in shitty weather/fog/winds and have skimpy shit for PDF's - but we don't screw with the Columbia much. Once Othello north is iced up - we have few places to go. We did hunt the Columbia more this year and will have to develop a plan for next years season - too few ducks this year.
