I currently have a Leica which are hard to beat and you can find those used in your price range.
What I've read on other hunting forums, the Sigs get a lot of praise as well here's an example

I appreciate the info. I will probably go with the Leica. I have used their optics in other equipment and found it accurate. Thank you both for sharing your thoughts and typing. JT

Regardless of maker or model, keep a spare battery stored nearby. The battery never dies when convenient.

If you ever gonna need a new one, here's my 2 cents:
For sub 250, I'd say look into Vortex and maybe some Sig or Bushnell rangefinders. I'm pretty sure my Bushnells Engage was around 200 when I got it from Gun Store | Shooting Sports Gear | GritrSports.com/ last year, but with all the inflation it might be a bit more expensive. Leupold usually is around 200-400, so depending how much wiggle room you have, it's not a bad choice.
