For 170 USD it would be hard to beat a new Echo Ion XL. Great for what you're looking it for. Very durable, takes a beating in the boat and the warranty is one of the best in the industry.

 

I've ruled out the Echo iON XL because it's more than 2 full ounces heavier than the 7wt 10 ft Helios original I'm replacing. I do appreciate the recommendation though. Everyone seems to love the ion XL for a value rod. It just appears too heavy to what I'm used too.
