So, I am beginning to Flyfish for Steelies after more than a few years of throwing soons, etc. I know, never should have gone there !!

What do you guys think about yarn balls as a fly. I know that many things are thrown as flies, but is there anything that should sit heavy on a person if he tries a UV yarn ball?

Thanks for any and all advice. I am not easily offended.

That my friend is a 'can o' worms' sort of question.

IMO if you are going to fly-fish instead of gear fishing (which you are accustomed to) why not throw a calssic fly? Wouldn't it be more effective to through a yarn ball with your gear stuff?

Do what makes you happy though. If that means yarn-ball, go for it. Happiness to me just happens to be different than a yarn ball.

yarn balls & beads are okay in todays flyfishing world, guys toss beads & yarn balls and you either like it or not.I'm old school and prefer to swing for steelhead .But there is no doubt , that beads & yarn balls are more effective in certain situations and it's a legal method. So go for it ,if thats how you want to fish
