It seems like the glass lovers, Toyota Krazzies, dry fly only crowd and strike indicator haters all have a lot in common. They pick a point of minutiae to support then go on a crusade to discredit anyone that doesn't support their position. There is a lot more to life than opinionated bullshit. That's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it!:D
I second that.

in light of my apparent glass elitism, it should be noted that I've always sung the praises of the the Redington CT line...They really are sweet casting rods.

Why do so many glass lovers act like graphite causes autism?
Not me. I love my fast graphite and cane too! I love my CT 865 too. It all has its place in my arsenal. YMMV of course. No need to make artificial "or" choices when "and" is on the table.

Also, graphite rods cause mesothelioma, not autism.

"stiff" isn't a term that I'd associate with the CT line of rods.
Well that's the hitch, I'm not positive it was a CT.

For reference, my own 3-wts are a ~15 year old 8'4" Orvis mid-flex that I dearly love. And I have a 8'6" Redington RS4 that I wish was a bit more progressive, but it is still slow enough in the top 1/3 for stream work (for my taste).

Has anyone tried the TFO Finesse series of rods and compared them to the Redington CT? If i remember correctly, they have a 7'9" 3 wt and 4wt. Both the Finesse and CT have always piqued my interest for small stream play. Several rises but i've never bit.

I've only fished a Finesse 4wt. I found it a bit stiff for the name. CT is more fun to cast.

Thanks for all the input. I ended up buying the redington ct 3 weight 8 foot in the 6 piece configuration for $67 off the big auction site. Thought that was reasonable. Now to find the redington drift to match it up. Any opinion on the 2/3 vs 3/4 weight reel? Thanks

Orvis Battenkill

I heard the battenkill is so light it doesn't balance as well as the drift on the classic trout. Do you have experience otherwise? Plus since it's only a 3 weight, I was trying to stay pretty cheap with a reel. Found the drift for $60. Cheapest battenkill was still around $100

If you have a drift available go with that atm as its cheaper. I find no issue with my Battenkill I on my 7'6 3wt echo carbon, but it is a foot shorter, but also the smallest reel. Another option if a drift isn't available is the zero but if your concerned about balance its weight is similar o the battenkill

I would go with the Drift 3/4 if you can find one. They are built like a tank. I have the 5/6. The mid arbor is great for my OCD line management, and at 4 oz or so, it's only a bit heavy on an 8' 3wt, and a bit light for my heavy old Scott 905. So it's perfect on a longer 3 or 4 rod or a light 905.

I also have an old Orvis BBSII, which I like on my lightest rods, and it has held up to 6 years of serious abuse.

I am considering supergluing it to my 6' 3/4 glass rod.

Great pictures Kyle! I ended up buying the ct for $82 after shipping charges, the drift 3/4 for $68 after shipping, then used a coupon on sierra trading post and picked up the sa mastery trout for $31. Feel pretty good about my investment in a 3 weight. Thanks again for all the help everyone.

It's not, I live in boise. Just initials and lucky number!

And fyi, I started fly fishing in April. Since finding this forum, I now own 4 rods. Yikes. Going to end up being an expensive hobby! Going to need to start hiding them from the cfo (aka significant other). But the information on the forum is top notch. Thanks
